    Wha?

    ...this:

    The history:
Some years ago, Alexander Shorokhoff (him of the brand with the same name and Poljot International) launched the brand "CCCP" . A mix of Russian movements (Slava, Vostok, Molnija) got wrapped in some rather nice cases and styled in the taste of several different periods of Soviet watchmaking. Some of them were really nice, but the rather "loud" and prominent CCCP logo kept me from pushing the buy button.

Well ...this brand has now been sold (to whom I don't know) and the watches are seemingly now made in Hong Kong.
Some models still have (reconditioned) Slava movements, others come with Seiko, Seagull and "swiss parts" quartz. According to the CCCP website Mr. Shorokhoff still has something to do with the design, but the logo finally is a bit more subdued and wearable

    technical data

Slava 2427 automatic with relaxed 18000 bph and date (the day function of the 2427 was omitted)

    Dims: 45 x 52 x 14 mm, 22 mm bracelet / 20 mm at the clasp, dial diameter 37 mm

Details: mineral glass, 100 m waterproof, signed crown (not screwed in), quick date change button, red glass on the bottom, signed clasp and black IP coating

Why did I buy this watch

First noted these watches some months ago on the bay and found them remotely fascinating, but...the pictures were pretty crap (see catalogue pics above) and prices somewhat high...plus I couldn't decide between the "safe" blue version or the radical black/brown one (rose gold is not my thing really) ...but as they were a tad dear I didn't have to :D.

Well and then there was a link in another forum to a chap in the UK who sold these things for less than half price (albeit without box or papers) ...so at that money I went full risk and ordered the radical version.

As you can see in the pics above, for my money I not only got a watch with a brown dial, but one with an anthracite and dark metallic green one too (depending on the angle of the light) ...plus hands and indices in copper.

Yes ...I'm very happy about that!
The dial is an absolute beauty, the details are nice (solid end links, solid and signed clasp, grippy crown with logo) nothing rattles or feels cheap.

The Slava movement is a matter of taste (it suits mine) ...it's got the zen-like slow beat, it's reasonably accurate but offers little creature comforts (no second stop and no "poor man's hack" either as soon as the twin barrel spring has any sort of ooomph).
There is some lume to ...nothing exceptional, but does the job and lasts a few hours

bottom line: this watch is great and well worth the roundabout 200 Euro asking prices (but then again I didn't pay that much :D)

I'm loving the red glass on the caseback. Good to hear the bracelet is nice quality. That seems to be a regular complaint area with Russian watches. That said someone I know got a new Vostok Amphibia(vintage tonneau shaped job) and it came with a rubber(?) strap and I was really impressed with it. Remarkably high quality. Very supple and a nice design. I've had a few rubber/silicone straps over the years and I'd say it was right at the top quality wise. Dunno if you can get them separately.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.
