Very simple stats Question

    If the p value = .03 for x = 5

    does this mean that at 97% confidence interval, x =5 is acceptable?
    And can I then say that for p = .05, x=5 is also acceptable.
    and in general that for p > .03, x=5 is acceptable?

    I am, however, wrong if I were to say that we can make any assumptions for p < .03.

    Is that correct or am I misguided?

    Appreciate any help. I am finding google very frustrating for statistics questions!

    No question as such. I am just trying to understand the concept of a p value really.

    A researcher conducted a large sample two-sided test of the null hypothesis that µ = 80. He reports a p-value of 0.03. Which one of the
    following is correct?
    (a) The null hypothesis is not rejected at α=.05
    (b) The 95% confidence interval for µ would not contain 80
    (c) The null hypothesis is rejected at α=.01
    (d) The 99% confidence interval for µ would not contain 80

    Here is a sample question I found on google based on this subject, perhaps someone can show me which is correct. i believe it is a or c but i am very unsure which one and why

    Hi,
    a=0.05 corresponds to a 95% confidence. If you get a p-value of less than alpha then for reject the Null hypothesis.
    So for the example above p-value < 0.05 so you reject the Null, that is also to say that the hypothesis mean is not contained in
    the 95% confidence interval (corresponding to a = 0.05) the correct answer is b.
