Unhappy with crash repair

So was hit by a van about 2months ago and he was liable. Went to a garage approved by his insurance to have the car repaired.

I got the car back today and I'm not satisfied with the repair at all. The whole side got a respray but it has the orange peel effect and clearly looks resprayed. Also the mirror has not been resprayed and the wheel liner is still broken (1/2 has been replaced) and a few tiny scratches on the light fittings (but i'd probably be the only one to notice i'm just very picky about)

I haven't spoken to them about it yet as my father got my car as I was in work, but i will drop in after work tomorrow and see what they say. But just trying to find out where I stand here? and if I can get the job redone.

I was under the impression you had the right to choose which garage repaired your car, any reason why you decided to go with the garage they suggested?

If you're not happy with it, don't let it lie, back on to them first thing in the morning. The shoddy repairs will seriously affect your sell on/trade in value.

You don't have to have repairs carried out by a repairer nominated by the other party's insurance company. You are quite entitled to have whomever you like do the work for you. They still have to pay for it. Not of much use to you now, OP, but good to know in future and might be interesting for others.

What you really mean is that you went to a garage 'preferred' by his insurance.

Now you know why they preferred them - they're probably the cheapest in the area for a good reason.

Just go back to garage that proceeded repair and demand redoing it, this time correctly.

Go back to their insurance company and say ok we tried to do it your way with your contractor, the work wasn't satisfactory - I'm rejecting it, so now we'll do it my way at a body shop of my choice.

According to the garage they are an approved repairer of the insurer, and I went with them as they were recommend by a friend for great work . But hopefully there won't be much hassle from them for doing it again as they seemed like very nice and friendly people.

You need to stand up for yourself and demand that your car be returned to the way it was prior to THEIR customer damaging it. If it were me I wouldn't entertain giving that shop a second try. They got an apprentice to carry out a job because they weren't getting their usual price. They don't give a crap about your car. Did you contact them and reject the repairs ?

You can get the repair job assessed by the AA and get a report to pass on to the insurance company. Let them know that you are prepared to go legal if they are not prepared to sort it to your satisfaction. You should also be reimbursed the cost of the AA report.

Did you/your dad sign a thing saying you were satisfied with the job?

If you signed that the repair was satisfactory. One may have a problem. One should return to the Garage/Repair and point out what one has noticed.

Also inform the Insurance Company that the repair is unsatisfactory. Might have to get an independent report of the situation.

Put everything in writing, including the return to the repairer. Follow you visit by writing and confirm what you discussed and the outcome

You have the right to repair your car wherever you wan and it is against EU regulations for any insurance co etc to hassle you into repairing it somewhere your not happy with. If the work is not to manufacturers standards then bring it back to them, if they will not accept responsibilty then you need to contact the insurance assessor who assessed the damage to your vehicle. You can obtain his details by ringing the claim handler who was dealing with your claim in the insurance co.
