Just wondering how long BVD tag part you send off to be tested would stay viable to be checked from when sample taken out of calves ear at tagging?

Plan to tag some baby calves and dehorn them tomorrow eve as will be bulleting cows in prep for letting out Monday but seen as its bank hol wkd would samples keep ok in fridge until sending to Lab on Tuesday for analysis??...or should leave tagging till Monday eve?
    Appreciate any advice.

In the past I left some in a fridge and forgot about them. I sent them off over a week later and the results came back fine!

Tag away no problem, have left them in fridge over a week here when calving is going on as every time you'd go to send a few another calves and its left another day

That's hardly possible is it? I really hope it's not and people realise how good a scheme this is. You at take a hot year one but it's well worth it in the long run.

If only the virus was that easy to kill off we would surely eradicate it easily. Viruses in general are more resistant than that. Anyway the test methods don't require live virus. I don't think leaving them in the fridge will have any impact on the tests even if in there for weeks.

    [MOD]

It is probably best to NOT post in public view an alleged method of interfering with test samples or attempting to falsify test results.
