Spent a wonderful week cycling in Girona over Easter, while there I had a bike from Girona Cycle Centre who are organising a super looking cycling festival in mid June, if anyone is interested:

It sounds great. Heading over at the end of May for a week. Taking my road bike and plan on hiring a mountain bike for a day. Any tips?

For me it was as close to cycling utopia as it comes, perfect, almost traffic free roads, mix of flat, moderate and very challenging routes and as Ford said the most cycling friendly drivers I have experienced. The Shop Rides from Girona Cycle Centre (every Thursdays at 10am) were some of the best experiences I have had on a bike. You just turn up, sign a disclaimer and off you go. After approx one hour there is a coffee stop after which the group splits in 3 - at this stage you will know which group you belong to for the remainder of the spin. I was lucky to do 2, it's a fantastic mix of locals, holidaymakers, ex pros (apparently it is not unusual to have the occasional Garmin pro riders taking part as they are based in Girona). Neil Martin is one of the founding members of this weekly event and was there on the second Thursday. In connection with the Gran Fondo the shop have produced a video of the Shop Ride -

So my tip - don't miss the shop ride! They also have excellent guides on the best routes to take around the area. If you are feeling particularly energetic you could try the famed Rocacorba climb - used by many pros to test their climbing ability, they say you should be able to climb it in the same number of minutes as your age. I reckon the jogger who passed me on the way up might have managed this!
