Couldn't find an existing thread on this. A mockumentary about vampires living in New Zealand and it looks hilarious:

It's directed by Taika Waititi, who also plays one of the vampires. I enjoyed Eagle Vs Shark and loved his follow up Boy. Boy was a hidden gem of a film which deserved much wider acclaim than it got imo so I can't wait for this.

If I'm not mistakend it was co-directed by Jemaine Clement. Really looking forward to seeing the film, been on my radar for ages and sadly there's still no talk of a release outside of New Zealand.

Ha, that looks to be a good laugh, some witty stuff in the trailer alone. First I'd heard of it too, so I'll be keeping my eye out for it now :)

Now I look a imdb and you're right, thought he was just co-writer.

Gotta say I'm really looking forward to this, looks great from the trailer and other clips I've seen. Does anyone know if it'll get a release in Ireland? I've had a look around, but can't find anything online...

    Great name for a film

This looks great. Will it be getting a wide (i.e not just in Dublin) release?

According to Flight of the Conchords facebook it was released here on Friday and it doesn't seem to be screening outside of Dublin :(

Saw this tonight and along with the whole audience laughed the whole way through. Amazing - can't wait to see it again. In the same class as Shane of the Dead.

I'm generally a fan of Waititi and Flight of the Conchords, but found this lacking. It's a film that IMO would have benefited from shorter form - there's 15 minutes of good material surrounded by a lot of wheel-spinning.

Bearing in mind comedy is so very, very subjective, an awful lot of the comedy felt obvious, and it suffered from what I can only describe as 'that's the joke' syndrome - a lot of mugging and forced wackiness that lacked the unpredictability and organic delivery of much great screen comedy. It doesn't help that the mockumentary is hackneyed at this point, and this does little of interest with the form (at times it even seems like an inconvenience).

The film was at its best when it went beyond the humdrum daily lives of these vampires and decided to go with some more surreal or elaborate sequences. The first scene where
they bump into the pack of werewolves
was very well done, and the best scenes were easily the ones where we first meet Nick. It was a weird, unhinged five minutes or so, and it helped that it had one of the funniest lines in years with the
    virgins and sandwich comparison
. Sadly, it illustrated a creativity and energy that was absent elsewhere.

Sq this recently and agree with the above. I love FOTC but this movie really was lacking. Loved the concept, and can't really fault the performances of the actors, but it was missing in large stretches. Just not enough laughs really and lacked the quirkiness of FOTC. The appearances by Rhys Darby possibly provide the most entertaining sequences.

Getting a general release in early 2015. Can't wait!

Watched this yesterday: I sadly agree with the above that it was a little lacking and dragged a bit at times. It was still worth a watch, but I don’t think this will be getting Taika Waititi many new fans.

I have only recently rewatched How to Meet Girls from a Distance, I would have to say the what we do….. movie is much weaker.

Finally saw this at the weekend after picking up the Blu-Ray. Probably doesn't hit the heights that the trailer suggested but I still found it great over all. I probably enjoyed it on a different level to a lot of people though considering
Stu pretty much works in the exact same field as I do and as a result was my favourite thing about the film.

Some of the deleted scenes on the Blu were funnier than a lot of stuff that made the final cut too. My particular favourite was
Vadislav calling up the the electric and phone companies and hypnotising them into thinking their bills were all paid.

I enjoyed the film, but it was slight. The movie felt like a badly over extended pilot for a half hour comedy series, it could certiantly have been chopped up into a couple of decent opening episodes for such a show.
