    Hi,

Has anyone advise on the best IT Security course currently on the market. I was looking at the Certified Etical Hacker course, seems like a decent course which also covers penetration testing. Any recomendations would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Barry

That depends. Do you want something that looks good on the CV or something where you'll actually learn valuable stuff?

CEH and CISSP would be the former, the likes of OSCP or SANS GPEN would be the latter.

OSCP sounds like a great cert to get, however id imagine you'd need a serious amount of experience. Just had a look at SANS, I have heard of these, seem to be well recognised but very expensive. I'm currently working with vmware and wintel. To get my foot in the IT Security door would you recommend CEH or SANS? Ideally through distance learning. I'm thinking with the cloud environment there will be a great demand for IT Security Specialists. I was looking at CEH online with espion, they have online ceh course for 1000 euro. Ive used cbt nuggets before which is another option. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I don't have a masters nor do I have a degree in this field. I do however love it and spend a lot of time outside of work learning about Vulnerability Assessment, Ethical Hacking, Programming, Incident Handling etc.... I've done a lot of free online courses like this, I've just got a job with the leaders in this field.

The feedback from my interviews was that I've shown a great deal of interest and spent a lot of time learning on my own watch which they liked. So the answer is if you have a genuine interest in this field and really want to get into it then doing courses like this is a great idea!
