Cost to change back from gas fire to solid fuel fireplace insert, not a stove

The gas would need to be switched off and secured, and i'd imagine correct insert to go in. Fireplace surround etc already in place.

Whats the going cost to change back? and where to check to best rates?

We're keeping the gas central heating, just the open fire we want.

    ta folks!

The gas fire needs to be removed by a RGI which would cost around €60
The fire back could be done by a fireplace company and would be in the region of €170-€250
Also the chimney would need to be swept prior to use

Watch out for the fire surround. As far as I know, inserts throw out a lot of heat and the surround also retains a lot of heat and so if its marble has to have expansion capabilities. Perhaps a look around the stoves thread in Plumbing might help you.

Edit: Just read your post again, and I see that its an open fireplace that you want. Same advice might be true.
