I have just managed to crack my 3 year old Fisher & Paykel 70cm glass hob. The glass is cracked the whole way across so unfortunately I need to fork out for a new one. Can anyone recommend a 70cm hob? While I like this hob, I don't like looking at the tarnished glass around each ring from saucepans (even though I only used the recommended ones). I don't think I can put in a gas connection to this point as it's in an island in the middle of the floor so can only get an electric hob.

if you have house insurance you can make a claim as the hob is a fixed installation and you are covered, get a quote for replacement top and talk to your insurer/broker, the policy probably wont cover all costs so take that into account.

I don't think it's worth claiming on my insurance. I have a €250 excess and I'll lose my no claims bonus. The hob cost €650. I don't particularly want to get the same one again knowing now how delicate it is but I might have to in order to get the same size again.
