    Hi all,

    I'm a casual gamer.

I wouldn't play every week but only when big games that i'm interested in coming out.

Also, I love online gaming with mates (BF shoot em ups)

Just wondering, is it worth getting an xbox one yet?

I ask this in terms of game choice and the range of types of games.

    Opinions?

I have a tendency to play the Big Games as they come out - right up until the Next Big Game comes out - so I figured it made sense to have an XBone. Firstly, I don't need a back catalog of stuff and secondly all the new games are optimised for new-gen consoles.

Playing BF4 on the Xbox 360 was enough to convince me that second one is very relevant.

If you keep an eye out online, you can find them new from Retailers for around €399 - €429. This is a great price, particularly if it comes with a game.

There aren't a lot of games out at the moment to say that it is a must - but these will start coming out as we near E3 and after the summer months.

This currently seems to be the best price I can find. Click the link there are a few different offers.

I'd say if you already have a 360 wait until the dual platform releases stop (one+360) 99% of games up until now have either been 360 only (dark souls 2, south park from recent memory) or have come out on both platforms. (titanfall, thief, AC4, BF4 etc. etc.) There are are a fair few AAA upcoming releases that are out on both systems too.

so unless the money is burning a hole in your pocket I'd wait, might get cheaper and 360 versions are cheaper. The One sure as hell ain't getting dearer :D

I say all of this as someone who has a one

Id personally wait ,there just be a cheaper package coming soon, rumours are saying Microsoft have suspended production on further consoles ,due to the massive over stock thats sitting in warehouses and retailers stock rooms ,

Going to wait and see if we get a price drop and a package minus the kinect

I got bored of the PS4, very few games on it and picked up the titanfall bundle and have to say I'm happy enough with my purchase of Xbox One! It's nice to have the choice of picking up console exclusives that might interest you on each console!

I have the xbox one and it is a great disappointment, the 360 is just as good for current gen games, the size of the updates are crazy and I have slow 2mb broadband which means if I hadn't Playd a game and it needs a update it could be hours before I can play.
You can't just play offline without updating like the 360.
Voice recognition not available in Ireland unless you change your country on the console which causes problems when you try to purchase things.
These are minor problems but the real reason not to hurry is that the online gaming is the worst kind of ****e, I'm nearly always getting games on US servers which means terrible lag, if you run a Ping test on the machine it is close to 200ms anything over 50ms is unplayable on a game like Ghosts.
The new kinect is just as rubbish as the last one, although it has solved the lighting problem and can work in smaller area it still is slow to respond and lags.
Last-but not least all games must be loaded onto the console which is shockingly slow as it nearly always needs to get updated at the same time, I'm talking hours.
The game are huge so I am already running out of space with five games.
You still need the disks so switching between games is no better.
I had hoped at least I wouldn't have the pile of boxes in my sitting room.
    I would definitely advise waiting a while.

I'd doubt that Microsoft have suspended production as they are looking to move into another heap of markets (including China) in the next six months and would need to have enough to meet demand for those markets.

It's definitely going to be getting cheaper, that's for sure. There are already a bunch of discounts or spot sales online, likethis one. And with some games actually starting to come out, you might have something to play on it :)

I bought mine at launch and have Titanfall and FIFA 14 and it's enough for now, though. Good games that are fun to drop in and out of.

This is exactly what I want. I think after reading all the comments here, I am going to wait until I spot a good deal. Unfortunately that dabs one is no longer running.

    This may be your experience but;
There is no issue with purchasing items, in-fact I purchased a game 20 euro cheaper because I purchased from the US store.
The voice recognition is fine, no need to have the region set to Ireland anyway, it makes no difference when connecting to game servers.
Titanfall still runs off the dedicated EU servers regardless, As for COD, it's still essentially a P2P hybrid.
No issues here from the kinect and 'Xbox-Record' is a great feature mid-game when recording Epic moments. I have not used it for Skype so cannot comment here.
I agree that the size of updates are an issue and install times can be a drag, I'm on a 2mg line also. However I just leave it to download automatically when powered off it's just timing you require here, unless you have a cap on your BB. A decent connection is a must in the future.

The OP should bear in mind that every game they buy now for the 360 they'll have to buy again to play on the Xbox One. To me it doesn't make sense to continue to buy 360 games if you know you will upgrade at some point.

The Xbox One is already a lot cheaper than it was to start, but it won't keep getting cheaper in the short or medium term. You might save €60 by waiting 6 months but then when you have to buy Titanfall or BF4 again to play on it there's nothing gained.

I heard recently that Microsoft are looking to make the xbox backwards compatible.

Anyone know if this is true?

Read some things on that. Supposedly it is true but very difficult to do and not likely to happen very soon. No time to find the links, sorry.

I'm not saying them xbox one isn't a good console but there are definitely a few issues that need resolvin , it's interesting that you could purchase from US I might unsubscribe and pay as I go with Microsoft points. I'm glad to hear titanfall is on a European server as ghosts is unplayable ,
I still think there is very little on the pro list for buying now versus waiting.
That said if more people buy it maybe I could get a good game on ghosts.

Btw I had problems downloading in the background and had to run xbox music to keep the connection to xboxlive ,otherwise the downld would pause,
this has no doubt made my experienc more frustrating than yours.

I admit, I only recently picked up a copy of Ghosts on a loaner from my m8 and I have been experiencing latency with it. But again I think this could be more down to the P2P nature of the game so I can understand your frustration here.

Titanfall has been buttery smooth in fairness.

I'm not sure why your downloads are pausing?? They should be automatic even when Xbox 1 goes into a standby. A OS glitch maybe?

If you Like Netflix, than a XboxOne will be perfect for you. haha jk but I do watch a lot more now that I have one. I'd say pick it up if your into Battlefield 4, or Forza. Otherwise I don't really have a lot I could say to persuade someone into spending the money on one. Its up to you really. I just hope they make GTA for Xbox one sooo badly.

    gta was awfully hyped up
story was good, online sucked donkey balls :pac: even without the constant disconnects and character deletes, it was boring after half an hour

Looking a bit more attractive now they dropped the kinect and price drop

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 400 ✭✭beglee

You can pre-order the €399.99 XBox One on microsoft store now

But I think it best to wait for retailers to start selling it. You can get an XBone-Kinect from Argos for 470 right now that comes with Titanfall + a 2nd game or 2nd controller. €70 extra for Kinect + Titanfall + Thief bundle for example. So 400 is not really saving you much. Until it comes with at least a game, then itll be a better deal.

MS really shafted early adopters. Forced to buy Kinect because it was apparently essential. Now they will offer without.

    That really p*sses me off.

    Thats your opinion.

To be honest I have gotten great use and and enjoyment from using Kinect. Predominantly for playback during movies, switching between games & apps, volume control and using the Kinect to record footage over already recorded gameplay.

Is it worth an extra $100? Probably not, but if I now had the choice to buy a bundle with kinect included, I probably would again.

My issue is they said the kinect was an absolutely essential piece of equipment therefore had to be bundled. A few months on it is now an optional extra.

Many people were put off at the extra cost associated due to the forced bundling and decided to go for PS4 instead. Just another MS Xbox blunder imo.

I've had no problem with Kinect being included and it probably will end up like the Fat PS3 - that had hardware emulation for PS2 and PS1 included. Early adopters had this for an inflated price, then Sony took it out to make the PS3 cheaper.

I'll still be happy with the Kinect I got with my Day One edition for voice control, etc.

Although (as an aside) I have seen a lot of people online saying that this is another 180 from Microsoft ... Although they obviously don't realise that doing two 180s mean that they've gone 360' and would now be going the same direction they were originally. :D

Wait for e3.... then wait until the end of the year. Nothing major is coming in the summer or out already that is worth dropping 400+ euro on.

But they didn't have to buy them and also they still have the connect and its functionality

These sort of changes happen all the time.

Last gen consoles also had price drops.

It's just way the world is, full of change and adapting, don't see how MS have shafted anyone.

I find the Xbox One is a lot quiter then my PS4, can hear the fans kicking in when playing something like Ghosts, whereas the Xbox One is whisper quite, ok it's ugly compared to the PS4 but at least they got the cooling system right in this one! Still happy with it even with the connect!

I got the dreaded red ring of death on my 360 the other day.
Still undecided whether I should get it yet.

Will my Gamer Tag remember my transaction history.
Mainly because I bought the season pass for the walking dead game which is awesome.

Finally, I hope there the Xbox One does not get the red ring of death as frequent as 360, I've been through 3 Xbox's!

Just onto a m8 of mine who runs a repair business he just got his first Xbox One in with a failed read laser! Chap had bought it second hand and didn't get a copy of receipt so couldn't send it back under warranty

Surely they know it's still under warranty. It's not been on sale a year yet. No receipt was needed when I returned my 360, they could tell by the serial number.

Same stuff with Xbox One, they won't touch the console if its been tampered with from other sources for obvious reasons - you don't need Proof of purchase as the console is out less than a year....

Would I be right in thinking you won't get a red-ring type malfunction on an Xbox One if you're playing games from a digital copy?

No the red ring issue was due to the over heating and cooling of the gpu/CPU solder points as the solder is lead free it becomes brittle an crack leading to dry joints this is what caused the rrod it was mainly due to poor cooling in the design of the 360, I think MS have learned from this and we won't see anything similar with the Xbox one

I know your friend is probably unwilling to turn down legitimate business but he will void the Xbox manufactures warranty by repairing it.

Also for anyone else thinking of going down this route you do not need proof of receipt to deal with Microsofts repair programs just the console serial number. Only time you will need proof of purchase is if you are looking for the retailer to replace it or are looking for a refund. Microsoft will only ask for proof of purchase if the warranty date has ran out for some reason before it was supposed to e.g the console was in storage for a long time before being sold.

Still the above is not to say that I havent used repair shops in the past and they are definitely a great service to have available, but only for out of warranty goods/out of region/other circumstances. No point paying when the manufacture will.

Any thoughts on Gamestops offer of console plus 2 games for €499? My choice would be Fifa & either COD or BF4.

Thing is, i'd have no use for the Kinect. I know the One is being released in a few weeks time without it but nowhere has any details of what (if any) games they'll be offering with it.

Argos have a slightly better deal I feel.

€470 for Titanfall bundle (console+kinect+digital Titanfall download) + 1 of Wolfenstein/Forza/Thief/2nd controller -> http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/1989522.htm#tab3 (click special offers tab)

Offer ends on May 31st. I'm pondering going for it, but not sure if it'd be better to wait to see what kind of kinect-less bundles will be on offer
