hi yrs ago my front tooth fell out and i had a crown replaced as a result as dentist didnt even consider the possibility of it ever being used again. i was just told its fixed and when i got up on the dentist chair i had a crown fitted, it never matched my own teeth and always looks off. that was about 14-15yrs ago. i am now left with this 'tooth' , have constant pain/nagging from it and refuse to go back again to original dentist as he wasnt a bit helpful when i ever brought the subject up and said it will settle in time, so i never want to go back there. other dentists in the last 5-8 yrs have done xrays and exams on the 'tooth' only to ask why was the crown put in without a root canal done first...i mean how do i know im not a dentist! ive been quoted lots of times to get the tooth repaired and root canal done of amounts of between E3500 and E4500. i just cannot afford this kind of money. i dont drink/smoke or even socialize! i have 3 children who eat money like food!! i have a medical card but this certainly is not covered! so where do i go from here?? my sister is the same , she has way more problem teeth than i have from this dentist also and was quoted by another dentist as having at least E8000 worth of repairs due to no root canals, shabby fillings on back teeth , front teeth dying from root canals that should of been done but wer just either packed or filled with i dunno what. any help for us both would be v appreciated, thanks

    €3.5 - €4.5k = implant?, not a crown.

If you or your sister did not have abscesses on the teeth at the times the fillings were done, root canal treatment would not be indicated.

Cavities occur in teeth because of poor diet and hygiene, not because big fillings were put in them. The cavity/decay occurs first, then they are repaired with fillings.

hi thanks for reply, yes sorry its an implant i have . so now that im in pain from it, does it mean i need root canal now , what happens my implanted tooth...replacement?
i dont doubt our teeth wer v neglected when we wer small, seperated parents, mother hadnt a clue and never looked after our teeth properly, which led to poor hygeine issues and only ever saw a dentist if in pain, ur so right there. when i lost my tooth it wasnt pushed out or anything, it just fell out when i was in my 20's

Its not an implant and you can't get a root canal on an implant.... Sorry to be blunt but you have no idea what you have or need so no one here can discuss your options with any accuracy... Go see a dentist and find out what you need.

the reason i dont know what i have is because the dentist that put it in never told me what he did or put in there. i didnt ever get a screw implant fitted, it was done in one session, i never had xray or anything on it, all i know is its stuck there somehow!, ive seen an xray done 4yrs ago on it but it didnt look like a screwed in implant either, and dentist didnt even know how it was put in. i never paid huge amts of money, in fact i didnt pay for it at all, so this is why im uncertain as to what i have. i do know that i need to see a dentist but at what cost?

    You didn't pay??

While you are giving us information, with respect- it is useless information and no one here can give you a cost for some unknown potential treatment... Go see a dentist. Forget about the past, it is done and your teeth are where they are. Assess them now and get treatment options that are relevant now.

hazarding a guess here... large part of tooth broke away, repaired with a big composite filling?

thank u both. maybe ye are both right, maybe we are all wrong! either way, if another dentist cant see what it is with an xray and the only way to find it is to remove it and find the source of my pain, then this is my problem. all i can say about the original tooth is that it was a complete tooth, didnt half or anything and i was left with a complete gap so no it didnt break say at the gum line or anything. yes i never paid a penny! crazy right, so if it was an implant i surely would of faced a bill ,like i am now! i will need a new tooth replaced and then this is the expense. the dentist who originally put the whatever kinda tooth is in, wasn't into telling patients what he did, it was just done and u saw it afterwards. or else if it was a back tooth it was just removed end of story, no trying to save the tooth or no options given.
