    Hi folks

I've got insertional achilles tendinosis and I'm wondering if anyone else on here has experienced it?

I've been diagnosed by an mri and have been advised to do a 12 week eccentric rehab programme which is supposed to work in most cases. I'm still doing easy runs (so long as the pain does not exceed 4/10 is the advice I've been given).

I'm now 4 weeks into the rehab programme but nothing is improving yet though so I'm wondering if this is normal or not.

I'd love to hear about anyone else's experience with this.

I had Mild (compared with you) and got great relief when running easy with kenisio tape. Taped from the base of the heal up to the calf.(youtube it for more info) Obviously check with your physio if this is advisable in your case

Had a bad case of it that took about 8 months to clear up. You should prob knock the running on the head while you complete your 12 week eccentric rehab programme, maybe just do some cycling instead to take the pressure of your calf/achilles.

For a long time nothing seemed to be happening with mine but then it all of a sudden got a lot better and has now cleared up so stick with the programme!

I am now fully taped up! Hopefully it will help.

    Thanks!

I think you are probably right about the running. However, I'm now in my 5th week so will continue on I think.

I've decided that if it's not cleared up by week 12 I will stop all running and try another 12 weeks of rehab. I've plans for a short term gym membership which has a pool so that I can pool run. I tried that a couple of times and it was a great workout, and apparently uses the exact same muscles as running.

Hopefully it won't come to that though!

Thanks for your reply and it's really encouraging to hear that yours healed. There is hope!

Yeah I had that. To be honest it didnt go away until I fully stopped running for a few months. You just have to break the cycle, it does take time though and you'll feel as though nothing is getting better but it is. Its an injury that heals very very slowly. I'd stop running for 3 months and then go back doing easy 20 - 30mins and build from there. This may be counter intuitive though but I found switching to flatter shoes really helped.

6 months off running in 2010 is what I had to do and then ease gradually back into it slowly acknowledging the mental aspect of starting to run again which such a vulnerable injury

Know someone who has this. Been off running for nearly 12 months and still not back. I would echo other comments, I think you should knock the running on the head for 3-6 months min.
