Heard on news this morning that Google are releasing all the aerial photos they have taken since Google earth started.
Thought this was brilliant because we can all look back at how are farms have changed over the last dozen yrs or so

It's pretty cool to look back, they have the ones from something like 99, 05 and 11 for here on it already and its funny to see how things change

Older arial maps were always viewable on the Ordinamce Survey website. Back to black and white images in 1995 I think.
    Older maps are also there.

On phone so don't have the link but I can root it out later if nobody else posts the link first.

Is it every six years they release new ones?

The dates on them are off. My friend moved into his house st the start of 05 and on that the housing estate hasn't started. All the photos are on google earth already just click the icon of a clock with an arrow pointing to the left, click it and it brings up a time line of all different photos.

Yeh Google didn't get high res of much of tje country side until about then. The ord survey ones are your best bet. Actually a fairly cool printout as like a present for say your folks etc would be several different photos over the years of how the farm has evolved!

The OSI map viewer is here:

    http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,591271,743300,0,10

and it shows 1995, 2000 and 2005 (ortho) aerial photos and are ready to buy online as pdfs that can be printed. Then use google for the 2011 photos.

They also do 1977 black and white photos, just take a screen grab of the area you want ring them and then email the capture to them with the request but they are costly (€150+).

That's class, had only ever looked up google maps before, google earth is a lot more up to date, from looking at the farm it was obviously taken during calving just after a slap of rain! I'm using an iPad, does anyone know how to get older maps?

Just looked up the home place and it's all blurry, was Monaghan not important enough?!
