Carpeting over old laminate floor

looking for some advice, would it be possible to lay carpet over a 15 year old laminate floor that's not in the best condition?, would it work out ok?, I'd like to know if anyone has done this, and how did it turn out? I think the bedroom door would still open fine with the carpet... , I would prefer to take up the laminate boards, but there's built in wardrobes fitted over them, so would be tricky to do. - also the skirting would be higher.
Any thoughts suggestions or solutions? :)

You could trim the old laminate at the threshold of the built-in wardrobes and just carpet the remainder of the room, you may need to make up a small timber saddle board or trim at the transition to conceal the edge of the existing flooring and accommodate the difference in level; any photos?
