unziping / Installing zip files

    Hi, as a newbie to mac's im having problems unzipping installing downloaded files, can anyone post a idiots guide to doing this

    Double click it and it should open, if not, download "the archiver", free app from app store, right click your archived file or folder, and open with the archiver, ...might as well set the archiver as your default unzipper at this point, it never fails me

    Cheers for that, should i keep the dmg file afterwards or should i keep it or back it up ?
