18 - almost 19.. Trying to get insurance on a wee 1.0 litre car... Who's the best for first time driver insurance? Liberty hammered me with a 3,000+ insurance quote.. So they're out.. Anyone else won't do it online..

You may just ring around, everyone has different circumstances.

Search car insurance ireland and ring everyone on the first few pages.

    FBD, AXA, AA etc.

There is no best place for everyone and insurance is not bought from a fixed menu. Insurance is based on the individual person's circumstances and as you know, no two individuals are the same.

There is no shortcut here, the best thing to do is take out the goldenpages and start ringing brokers and insurance companies for the best price on the comprehensive cover.

Fbd seems to be good for young drivers at the moment I'm with them and I'm 19. But ring them online quotes are a waste of time.

3rd Party is the bare legal minimum you need: all you're covered for is damage to third parties. None of your own costs in the event of a loss are covered.

Fire and theft means your car is covered if it's stolen and/or burnt out.

Comprehensive cover covers your own costs too, e.g. healthcare, repair/replacement of the car, etc. These days, the level of cover in comprehensive policies varies quite a lot, so be sure to read the fine print on any policy.

FWIW, €3k doesn't sound insane for an 18 year old getting insurance for the first time. If you haven't done so, get your driving test out of the way and it'll make insurance a good deal cheaper.

I think I'll just go as a named driver on my nannys car while I rack up the 6 months experience and 12 lessons then go and do the full test... Thanks for the idea
