I will be getting a new bike soon and have my eye on the Specialized Allez Elite 2014.

Is there any reason why shouldn't go for it?

    I can't post a link as i am a new user.

The only reason why you shouldnt would be if this is exceptionally bad value for money type of bike. Compare other brands within your price bracket and see what will that money get you - then pick best or one you like the most. But my guess is that with specialized you pay premium for the logo.

Not forgetting that Spesh are simply evil and will bulldoze their way through the little guy to get what they want.

    1. Fugly in my humble opinion.
    2. You'll get far better bang for your buck with much nicer looking Cubes etc.
    3. Save yourself the trouble of having to paint over the decals when Specialized sue an orphanage into bankruptcy because they called it the "City of Roubaix Orphanage".

I think there is money off some of the Specialized bikes at the moment.

Recently got a Tarmac SL4 Pro and love it. Had a Ribble Sportive before that and the difference between the two frames is huge.

the bike is just over 1k, i would have thought that most of them are there or there abouts spec wise.

The lightest/bestest groupset isn't important as it is for commuting 120/160k a week, but the durability would be.

I don't want something that break easily.

As for the looks, i really like how it looks its actually the thing that is drawing me to it!

Its between this and a Giant Defy 1 (if i can get a deal), tbh, but the heart want's the Specialized

The defy 1 would kick its but.

    better spec..better frame..better parts....lighter...

go for a defy1 will be hard to get for 1k though.

    that big of a diff?

i could try and stretch the budget out if it was worth the extra €150/200

this is how it starts, budget of 1k
then ah sure i might go a bit higher
then well if your looking at that for 1,200 you could get something like this for 1,350 much better
    repeat
    repeat

then before you know I'll be getting Wiggo's Dogma!

Because paying a grand for a tiagra equipped bike is a little over the top when there are several bikes of equal or better spec on the market for up to €300 less.

Like the Planet X RT-58 Alloy for €730 They have another bike with equal spec for the same price, the SAB La Rocca, if you prefer the geometry or paint-jobs on those. .

Or the SAB Classico Sram Rivel for €972 from Planet-x's website.

Or The any of these Ribble bikes which you can build to your needs and wants from as little as €650

Or the Ribble Winter Trainer/Audax for €707.

Or the Battaglin S11 with 105 groupset and Fulcrum Racing 7's for €823 from wiggle.

Or the Avanti Giro 3.0 with 105/Tiagra mis groupset, 105 shifters and rear mech, tiagra front mech and chainset, for €744 from wiggle.

Or this Colnago Strada SL in team Wiggle Honda colours with Tiagra for €1040 if you wanted to inflict a bit of frame envy on other cyclists.

Seaneh, fair play for the post and idea's

I'd prefer to go with a LBS for the bike as i wouldn't trust myself to put it together plus it gives somewhere to go if needs be.

Although that Colnago Strada is something else it has to be said

You can get the Planet X RT-58 for €750 from the shop in Athlone if you live in the midlands.

No google was used in the making of that post. I'd just looked at most of them myself recently. That Battaglin with the 105 and Fulcrum 7's and the Aventti with 105/Tiagra mix and R501's are new for me though, crazy prices.

Holy moly, that is beautiful! I'd remove the pie plate and excess spacers with my teeth.
