It's illegal but you may be able to sweet talk the Gard if you have paperwork with you showing it's booked.

5 points for no NCT. That it is booked is neither here nor there. Garda might let you go, however. Out of curiosity, why have you booked for end of June?

No. As soon as you leave your driveway the suspension will collapse, the head gasket will blow and every tyre will simultaneously deflate. Should you manage to control your vehicle, you will be stopped at a mass checkpoint before you hit the end of your road. Take her handy now.

The Garda's sympathy may also depend on when the last disc expired, if this was April then probably no bother, if it was several years ago it might be different.

Also check your insurance policy as some are void if the NCT is out of date.

Keep checking the NCT site, I got a booking for the next day when I looked at about 10am on Wednesday last week.

I've a similar problem. A long story short I suppose but I've inherited a car. The NCT was out in August. As soon as it was signed into my name I booked the NCT. I've got the log book and the NCT booking in the car. Does this mean that I shouldn't be driving it?

    Have you taxed it?

Having a nearly full window with a recently purchased car will go a long way to a guard letting you go.

If you just have it insured I'd say they won't let you go.

That's the earliest I could get it for

Have tax and insurance on it.

I have a text from the nct centre to say when it's booked that should be sufficient I would imagine

You may be fine or you may meet a guard that throws the book at you. Hard to know really.
Because of how long the nct is out, if you crash you only get a percentage or possibly nothing of an insurance settlement if you were to have an accident.

If your taxed and insured they usually let you go but if you get a traffic corps copper then more then likely they will seize the car, fine and whack a load of points on your licence! I had a a few similar situations and the gards were pretty sound and didnt mind because i had it booked and i was very apologetic

Well yes, of course you shouldn't be driving it but whether you'll get caught is a different story. The NCT is about 10 months expired, I can't see a Garda ignoring that if you are checked.

The same happened to me. I printed out the booking I had made and left it in the car. Only stopped once and when he saw the print out waved me on. Not your fault if the NCT can't take your car in a timely manner!
