Recently I got a call from the orthodontist near the end of last week, asking me to come in for a a check up.
I am 16 years of age. And the appointment just happened out of the blue, I asked nor filled any forms for an appointment. But nevertheless I am glad it happened cause my teeth are in bad shape physically, they are clean but they are messed up.
I have an overbite and a tooth coming out of my upper gum for the last 2 years. It is very noticeable.
So I was wondering what will they do? will they do anything about my overbite because I know only braces can fix that problem, but they are not free even for medical card holders.
Any chance of me getting braces or what

Wow, psychic orthodontists….! I must get my clinic to randomly call people asking them if they want their wisdom teeth out or maybe an implant today????
If your teeth are crooked then most likely some orthodontic treatment can improve that, the HSE may treat only the most severe of cases and only under 16 years old so thats you out unfortunately….

It may be that you were placed on an assessment list when you were still in primary school.
And perhaps it is only now that you are been called. If that is the case the Orthodontic appointment would be at the local HSE clinic or Merlin Park if you are in Co. Galway.
As far as I recall you can still have Orthodontic treatment with the HSE after the age of 16 , if you have been assessed before the age of 16 and have been found eligible for treatment.
