Cancelled my sky subscription ( running out in mid may) but I'm planning to still use the box to watch the FTA channels.

Will I still have RTE Tv3 etc?

No, you won't get any RTE, TV3 or TG4 channels with an out-of-sub. Sky box.

Saorview for the Irish channels - http://www.saorview.ie/get-saorview/make-the-switch/. Aerial and Saorview TV or STB required.

With the correct aerial installation you may also receive the UK channels from a transmitter in NI - http://www.ukfree.tv/txdetail.php?a=IJ055247. Handy for combining the Irish and UK channels together for distribution around the house

Easiest way to do this is to quite simply pull out your card and see what you have.

That usually doesn't work on a Sky HD box, you need an FTV card from Sky UK or Sky NI.

What doesn't work? It will show what channels are available on the OP's box when the Sky sub. runs out, won't it? Nobody said they'd get the UK EPG.

    Usually?

    Haven't you tried it?

Are you really saying that inserting a UK or NI non-subscription card will give the OP RTÉ or TV3 (because that's seriously misleading)?

Sky is now cancelled but I still want to watch Saorview in the bedroom but there is no place for the aerial wire in the back of the saorview box.

    Pics in attachments.

That cable has an f-connector on it. If you want to connect it to the Saorview box, you will need an adaptor or, change it for the correct connector. ("Belling-Lee" type, often just referred to as an "aerial plug".)

Is the cable even coming from an aerial or is it from a satellite dish? Maybe there is an adaptor plugged into the receiver you removed the cable from?

Its coming from the Satellite dish.

Satellite dish is no use for Saorview. You need an aerial for terrestrial UHF TV, already referred to in post #3.

I only have a Satellite dish.

An indoor aerial can work for Saorview in some places, see thread in terrestrial forum "Problem setting up Technika Saorview box" for a useful link. (I can't post urls.)

I'd recommend to buy an indoor amplified aerial place it beside a window and run some extra coax cable and join it to the aerial if the extra length of cable is required.

Amplified indoor aerials are a waste of money. They are x4 overpriced for what is in them too. The Amplification hardly ever makes a difference.

I had one in Cork and it was working perfectly but I am not in Cork now and it is very hit and miss so bought a real aerial today.

Well an indoor amplified aerial works perfect for me and I don't think it uses much electricity

What a pointless statement, maybe you live next to a transmitter.
No one said it wouldn't work, though in many cases it won't if an outside aerial is required. No doubt a non amplified indoor aerial will work as well in your case.

An amplifier is to overcome the losses on a long length of coax cable which you don't have on an indoor aerial. As stated an amplifier on an indoor aerial is a waste of time, money, and electricity however small that amout of electricity is.

I use my sky dish with my saorview box in my bedroom and I get a lot of stations 200+, I then ran a coaxial up into attic where I mounted an indoor aerial to pick up the Irish stations.

Mine is a ferguson ariva 120

    Why is it pointless?

I'm stating facts and no I live an hour drive from nearest transmitter!

I think my recommendation is good option for someone living in a rented property with no options for installing an external antenna.

That is neither a Saorview box or a sky box. It is a fta combi box, completely different.

No, it is a bad option as previously stated by both myself and watty amplifiers on indoor aerials are a waste of time, money, and electricity.

In a rented property one should ask the landlord to provide an aerial feed, generally regarded as normal these days. Or else vote with your feet.
