How helpful are SUMS?

I've an exam coming up and I'm woefully bad at the subject. The terminology really just doesn't seem to sink in for me at all.

Anyway, I'm fairly certain I'll fail it if I don't get some help, only thing is, you'd pretty much have to run through the whole thing with me.

I thought going to SUMS would be a great idea, but I don't want to be taking the piss either and going there expecting them to teach me the whole course.

So I've no real starting point on this, is it still worth trying anyhow?

Even if I'm there saying I've no clue where to start or how to do any of this stuff? I can't really expect them to know my module inside out and the layout and stuff... could I?

You have to identify your problem areas. Prepare in advance.
They are not there to do your exam for you.

That's what I mean. I'm finding it tough to even comprehend where to start. I've never seen messier notes in my life

    What's the subject?

The place to start is with Question 1 on last year's exam paper. Google the question, find it. If possible, understand it. If you don't understand it, try harder. If you still don't understand it, go to Sums and they'll be happy to help.
Repeat for other necessary questions on paper.
The "easier" your subject is, the easier it will be to find solutions on the internet.

You may be in luck, if you're tutor is in sums, he will know the layout and maybe even some exam hints. The more work you've done before, the more inclined he will be to help you, it seems counterintuitive but there is nothing worse than having to help someone who doesn't try. I don't think they will help you with past exam papers in general, but most exams are comprised of problem sheet questions + proofs, (in my experience).
