    Hey does anyone know if you can apply for a medical card just for youself if you have a dependent child and living with the father ? I'm also on maternity benefit .

    Anyone can apply for a medical card, it's based on income. You can apply on line and it will tell you straight away if you are eligible for that or a GP only card.

    The limits are quite high, even people who are working are entitled to medical cards if their wages are below a certain amount.

    Moved to State Benefits as it's not a parenting issue.

    When you apply for a MC you are asked, if you live alone, have you a spouse or partner and any dependents. The household situation is all taken into account.
