    Hi guys,

I've been a lurker for some time and have recently decided to get back on the bike. I was looking for something second hand/ cheap to start off on while I build up funds to get something better.
Would anyone be kind enough to tell me if this would be a good starter please?

Like I say, I don't need anything special just yet as I'd like to build up a decent level of fitness, as well as money, first.

    Thanks in advance. :)

The bike in the link wouldn't be worth that price new, never mind second hand.

How tall are you do you mind me asking? I might be able to throw up something more suitable.

In my own experience, I've found that unless you are planning on doing serious cycling and have a good lock up then don't bother getting anything TOO expensive. Get a decent hybrid for around €350 and you're sorted. There's a lot of crime around bikes, it's a big market so I'd keep your bike nice and locked up. Out of view if you can. Anyway, good luck with the cycling, I'm only back into it myself. Was cycling for a good solid year up until Feb last year when some spanner stole my bike outside work.

Thanks for the reply, I'd be 5'9" on a good day. :D

I've just had a quick look at Halfrauds and they have, to my untrained eye, a pretty good deal on this bike:

    http://www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_11101_catalogId_15551_productId_810707_langId_-1_categoryId_212536

This would probably be the top of my budget for the time being.

FYI that bike was never even close to its original "RRP" - even at €390 it's not a "snap your hand off" bargain. Don't get suckered into thinking you got a great deal because they pretend that it's a special offer. I've never seen that bike on sale without a 40-50% "discount" applied. As they say themselves...
    Higher price charged 28/01/14 - 03/03/14 in 55 of 464 stores, excluding Halfords.com

Have a look at Decathlon in Belfast if you can travel - or better still, keep your eyes open for second hand. Check the adverts forum here and people will give you decent advice if you ask nicely ;)

    Lardy,

You probable need a 54cm bike with a 10 speed Shimano Groupset, check our Ribble on google and use the bike builder to spec your bike, the ribble Sportive 700s is a prettu decent bike, i have one and its a good all round commuter / training bike

Thanks for that, but a little over my budget for the moment. :)
