Dilemma with working out notice

    Hi

I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I have been working at job X for four years on a 10 hour part-time basis. I also done work with an organisation who I have secured sessional work with much better pay and working conditions.

In my part time job, we have had several managers and I have always been a loyal member of staff. I found out that I got the job at Y on April 17th and I gave one months notice to my job at X on April 20th. I was told I needed to give four weeks due to my service however I actually only need to give two weeks.

Now my job at Y need my P45. I am due to be paid tomorrow by X for my April's wages. If I continue to work my notice I won't get my p45 until the end of May with my last pay check.

I really don't know what to do. I feel like I wouldn't like to burn bridges with X but they have been a nightmare to work for. Could I call today and say I'm not going back and that I want my P45 with tomorrow's pay check? I think it may be too late.

Any suggestions on what would be the best course of action would be greatly appreciated!

You don't need to hand in the P45 immediately, the new employer can wait a couple of weeks for it.

Chances are very high you're not going to get your P45 no matter what tomorrow no matter what you do or say as it's usually sent out later.

Exactly and I don't owe them any favours. I guess I can ring the Tax Office and give my employers tax number. Emergency tax is inevitable.

The X employer can't legally hold my notice though can they?

It sounds like you're panicking and are considering burning bridges.

    Relax.

The P45 isn't important right now. You will get it later and will be refunded any extra tax you paid.
