Nice find! I need to recertify this year or I lose my CCNA. I was having a hard time trying to decide between CCNA Voice, CCDA, CCNA Security and one of the CCNP exams but I think the decision has now been made.

I had actually just emailed PFH enquiring about taking one of these exams - whether it's actually possible to sit one and what the going rate is these days. I did my ICND1 + ICND2 there (Galway) but through Fás so no idea what the cost was.

Anyone have any ideas? I have a figure of ~€150 in my head for some reason...

I did this exam a few weeks back to re-certify. Its easier than either of the ICND exams. Most of the bits are around the ASA, so unless you are working with Cisco gear, it doesn't transfer unlike some of the other exams.

Hoping to change career, do you need much experience to do this course?

You need to have a valid Cisco certificate to sit the exam:
    CCNA Security Prerequisites:

Any valid Cisco CCENT, CCNA Routing and Switching, or any CCIE certification can act as a prerequisite.

    Thanks for your reply

So if I am reading the info right I would wanna do the CCENT first. I presume this is the entry level into this field of study?

You would need to at least pass the CCENT before they will allow you to sit this exam. A few years ago they split up the CCNA into two parts - ICND1 (CCENT) and ICND2 (CCNA Routing and Switching). You need to have passed ICND1 to sit ICND2.

There is also the option to sit both together in a combined exam á la the old CCNA - now called CCNA-X (accelerated). If you are starting off, CCENT is probably the way to go. Fás still run these courses and will cover your exam fees if you qualify through unemployment.

Here is a link that shows it all fairly clearly - EDIT: Can't post link because "new" user :S - registered in '07...

    !!!--- cisco.com/web/learning/training-index.html ---!!!

Also, I heard back from PFH and the exam cost is: € 225.09 including VAT, just in case anyone else was wondering.

http://www.theexamcentre.com/ have a 10% membership discount. (My exam cost ~202 inc vat I think) Membership is free and they are great bunch of people and very friendly. Last time I was there was for my CCNA Security, I spent more time in reception than in the exam room.

I'm 99% sure you have to book directly to get the discount. Its easier to get a time doing so. I was able to get exams two days later the last time around, and they also do drop in exams for the ones that allow it.

Not affiliated, just have been over for 3 different exams in the last few months. I'd definitely recommend them.

What are the job prospects these days for someone fully qualified in all things Cisco? I am employed at the minute but looking to do some learning on the side to keep the mind fresh. It would be nice if it gave me some options though in a few years time.
