Sorry if this has been asked before.
My wife's 00 Ford Focus 1.4L Petrol just failed it's NCT on emissions.

Low Idle CO 0.54 vol% above 0.50% FAIL
    (560 rpm) HC 429 ppm above 0 ppm N/A

    High Idle
    (2,780 rpm) CO 0.67 vol% above 0.30% FAIL

Just wondering if a bottle of dipetane will do the trick or will it require more serious intervention?

    Much appreciated.

Looks like it might be a problem with the Lambda sensor. It's also possible that there's a leak in the exhaust manifold somewhere. It would be useful to have a look for OBD codes - it's just possible that a 2000 Ford will support it. A course of injector cleaner (Dipetane, Redex) wouldn't do any harm initially.

Cool, thanks. I'll have a chat with my mechanic

My missus 1.4 astra 2008 failed last Thursday with the same sort of results on the high idle , 0.65 % vol and above 0.20 % vol was a fail , I used dipetane and did nothing but drive it hard on the motorway for a hour before the test ,had it red hot when I arrived and it passed this morning with a high idle result of 0.15% volume!!! Cheap fix , worth a shot before you spend a small fortune on a mechanic !!!
