Do not use Internet Explorer

As much as I hate Internet Explorer, this is not one of those threads.

The governments of both the US and the UK have advised people to not use IE after a major security flaw was discovered over the weekend.
The US and UK governments have advised computer users to consider using alternatives to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser until the company fixes a security flaw that hackers used to launch attacks.
The Internet Explorer bug, disclosed over the weekend, is the first high-profile computer threat to emerge since Microsoft stopped providing security updates for Windows XP earlier this month. That means PCs running the 13-year-old operating system will remain unprotected, even after Microsoft releases updates to defend against it.

Yikes. Does anyone still use IE in their workplace/personal life? Well.. don't.

Most large enterprises still use Internet Explorer.

That's what I was thinking - when I was researching ages ago into which browsers are the most used, I was shocked by how many companies still use extremely outdated versions of IE.

I only use it for things like banking, paypal or other transactions as it's the safest:

It's pretty muck in fairness though so use Chrome for most other things.

If only it were just that amount. Most major companies/enterprises use IE as standard, so this could affect a lot of people.

It's because they have software/applications with dependencies and requirements for IE. Even old versions too.

Yeah you'd be surprised how many people still use "the button for the internet", often old versions in conjunction with rarely updated/no antivirus programmes.

We have to use it here in work, i use it in conjunction with firefox tho. Some internal apps only work through IE.

I know, sure we use it ourselves here in work. We're in a bit of a quandry if anything comes out of this, as we're in the process of moving to Windows 7 but still have 80% of the company on XP.

Have the option of IE and Firefox in work, and I use Firefox for the most part.

Many of the large IT consultancies tell their corporate clients to not allow Google Chrome onto the network. It's little more than a data-mining tool with a quick browser built on top of it.

Have to run my work software through IE, can't stand it at all.

You have got to be joking, these articles are such bull****.

Blocking malicious downloads does not make a good browser... It makes a good antivirus, if you want to block malicious downloads get an antivirus.
Microsoft abused the HTTP and HTML guidelines for years, and what they have is still nearly hands down the worst out there.

Wouldn't use IE in a blue fit. No need - Chrome and Firefox have it covered.

think I heard somewhere that if you use Internet Explorer with XP its fine. Something about the virus risk from IE and XP canceling each other out or something. Fairly sure thats the case anyway. In other news don't drink bottled water or you'll catch cancer, thats how it spreads.

Some users in our workplace still require it in order to use the online portals of various corporate customers and for using Bank of Ireland's online banking. We try to ensure it's only used for these and generally use Chrome for everything else.

How much at risk is someone using windows 95?

For general browsing I still use ie, I find it the easiest to read. If checking email or making payments I use commodo dragon or iron, sopposedly its a safer less intrusive version of chromium.

    No, they aren't.
Maybe do some more reading on it.
It aint trendy to like IE, I don't particularly like it, but it's certainly the safest.

We use Chrome in Intel. It recently got rolled out. So much nicer than IE8

Perhaps you should look up how NSS Labs (the ones that did the report) have a history of being paid by Microsoft to create that exact same report.

That might just be the most stupid post I've seen on this forum all year.

Every IT security researcher I read or listen to say it's the worst. Also web designers say it's the worst at moving forward with new HTML5 features lagging behind every other browser. Chrome and Firefox are just much nicer to use anyway.

Chrome may be an excellent data mining tool for Google but Windows 8.1 with it's Bing integration is exactly the same.

I read an article about browsers the other day, according to that the only three countries in the world that still use IE over any other browser are South Africa,China and Greenland.

    Sort your **** out China!

You're grand with Windows '95, simply because nobody can be arsed writing a virus for it. ;)

Where can I download Internet Explorer for Ubuntu?

I've honestly prefered IE over Firefox lately, FF just seems to get sluggish for no reasons with it stuttering a fair bit - be it scrolling the page, watching a video, etc.

    That being said, for some reason I still use FF <_<;
