Has anyone had any experience of the diesel remapping services offered by KC Systems Watergrashill and do they do good work? Looking to get my EGR valve deleted from the ECU so that I can blank it off and maybe a remap for some more low end torque on my vectra 1.9CDTi 150bhp to reduce turbo lag.

Not had it done myself but I know two people who have and its been all good response from them. Both claim the cars are better on juice and a bit pokier to boot..

A mechanic in work has used him for his own Passat 140 to map it up to 170 and he says it's still running perfectly since. He says he's one of the best around.

Used him for a different service for an electrical fault before and he fixed it cheaply too

I believe they are good. Have also heard many in the trade sending them ecus / dash pods / modules to repair.

Also used them to remap my old 320d. Very good service...

Do they only work on diesel motors? Have they a dyno? Sorry, on mobile, and their site is appalling.

A main dealer sent my car to him for him to unmap it and load a factory map!

Anyone advise pro or con on a diesel remap ? Does it really affect the life of the engine ?

What sort of cash are we talking for a remap ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,865 ✭✭✭✭MuppetCheck

It'll effect the life of the engine if you drive it like you stole it. Does he have a rolling road? I'd prefer a map done on one but I've never heard a bad word about him.

The ape that did mine originally one car made a pigs ear about it. The car had so many problems while I had it I got rid once the warranty was up. There's good and bad people in every trade though.

Anyone advise pro or con on a diesel remap ?

    Pros:

    Better torque
    More power
Engine usually better on fuel than before
Can eliminate pesky DPF filters and stop the light from coming on (Nct Failure if it does come on)
Pretty much the car is a better car to drive.

    Cons:

If your car is under warranty, a remap will usually render the warranty null and void..
Can make ribbons of your engine if done wrong..
Items that may be close to failing may go a lot quicker than expected. Ie., Turbo,Clutch..
Brakes/suspension might not be able to handle the extra power.
Insurance companies might not be too happy, and nowadays them F@£%ers will use any excuse to refuse a claim.... ( I know a lad who had a claim refused for having alloys on his car that weren't on it when it left the factory )

I've driven a few mapped cars and my car at the moment is mapped but by who, I'm not sure as it was done before I got it. According to popular Felt speak, your 1.9 diesel isn't going to instantly have Ferrari beating performance after a remapping!! Even though some Felters will try and convince you their remapped 100bhp Passat has enough torque to reverse the rotation of the earth :)

As for the life of the engine, well if done right the engine should be fine. Thats of course you dont drive the ring out of it.

As for only getting a remap done on a Dyno, well thats not always right. Almost all my custom maps on my rallycars were done on a road with the person doing the mapping in the passenger seat and me driving.

    any benefit to remapping a 2006 2.0 D-4-D Corolla?
    if only for fuel economy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,238 ✭✭✭Ardennes1944

Minimal economy wise, maybe 1-2mpg, and usually the extra power will make you want to drive it a bit harder sometimes, offsetting any potential increased mpg

Well that's better again! As opposed to a generic one size fits all.

You can't remap them. You need a piggyback ECU like a tuning box from Martin in Westward Engineering.

Sorry for hijacking your posts OP but can anyone tell me if there would be much of an improvement in remapping a 2010 BMW 530 automatic? I have tried to find answers to this but without success. Thanks in advance for any answers.

Lots of improvement but at the moment I don't think the ECU on the F10 can be mapped yet.

Either way I'd double check with Martin in Autoremap.com or Joe Power in Chippedirl.

Edit: is your car F10 or E60 as a few E60's were registered in 2010.

ECU on the F10 is protected so it is very difficult to remap them. Most opt for a good reputable tuning box instead. And forget about those cheap tuning boxes on the likes of ebay claiming they will increase your car's power and fuel economy by 100%.

Thanks for the quick and helpful replies KC and Bazz. Much appreciated. The car is an F07 GT. I assume it'll also be blocked if the F10 is. I'll ask either way. Bazz, is there a tuning box you could recommend? Not sure if that'll be a breach of forum rules. Apologies if it is.
I wouldn't mind some extra power but it's more for extra MPG as it's currently returning only 31.5 MPG with conservative enough driving.

    Thanks again for your help.

Seems a bit low MPG but depends on if you do a lot of city driving?

If the newer models are like the older e60s then it is fairly common for termostats to fail and one of the symptoms is reduced MPG.

May be worth getting you car to a good BMW independent? Don't bother with a BMW dealer for this kind of thing, they really are useless when it comes to anything bar basic servicing.

To answer my own questions: not just diesel, but no dyno. Around 300 to remap a Volvo turbo.

Talk to Martin in Autoremap, he does tuning boxes also. He is a site sponsor over on bmw-driver.net.
