    Hey

My son is making his confirmation in a few weeks. I don't know what to wear it has been such a long time since I bought anything remotely dressy for myself. I need to find an outfit that looks good and hides my worst parts. I'm a good 14-16 and have a tummy that bore three children :) the hips, bum and thighs need hiding and not sure what style would suit. I haven't a clue what to look for. I'm 5 foot 8 inches tall. If anybody has any good ideas of what type of outfit would be good id love the guidance. I want to be comfortable on the day too as I'll have my two youngest under four to look after and entertain our guests. I love bright colours and black also. I'm pretty clueless with what is in fashion. Thanks.

Next have a few nice jersey dresses in at the minute.

Two I like in particular are these:

    http://ie.nextdirect.com/en/g802044s3#654990

You could add some nice accessories on the day.

This jersey style of dress seems to nip in at the waist a little bit and flow/skim in a nice way over the hips and thigh area like you asked, and is not too clingy or too puffy out either in that area.

My friend has the same body type as you and she looks great in styles like this - not clingy but nicely fitted http://www.oasis-stores.com/bali-placement-dress/dresses/oasis/fcp-product/3470118700
This is nice and bright and has good structure at the bust and seaming at the waist to skim the tummy and hips - would look great with accessories in other brights like coral or royal blue http://www.debenhams.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10052_10001_54510+202584845_-1

Just another question for underneath the dress I will need to get some type of tummy support thingy like spanx is there a particular one you would recommend and do I go a size up it down? Really appreciate your help as I said I'm pretty clueless with all this.

I'd say stick with the first one here (if you've no time to try on). I've a mummy tummy too and I fine loose fabric is bad, structured is good.

    No idea on spanx though.

When you've tried on the dress you'll have a better idea as to what underwear you'd be best wearing with it.
Personally I think the Spanx type of slip is better with a dress than a pair of Spanx themselves. Its more comfortable to wear as there is no cut off at your stomach and there are fewer areas for lines to appear. When wearing the Spanx cycling shorts you can get a cut off at your stomach and also again at the thighs.
You can buy one of these control slips in Marks and Spencer and from what I remember are available in nude and black so go with everything. They are also low cut at the front so don't flatten out your boobs. They are also cheaper than the Spanx but effective.

I'm probably your body type and find Wallis very flattering. I can't say I'm a huge jersey fan or at least not without trying. I'm size 12 with a bit of a tummy but not massive and the last jersey I tried just cling to my body at all the wrong places regardless of what size I tried.

This is an example, they have a lot in similar shape.

The woman in the boutique where I shop has a rule for confirmations and communions. Under 40 wear a dress. Over 40 wear a suit. No cheating.

Imo that sounds like a ridiculous rule.

And for the LO's christening I wore trousers and a jacket. And I'm 36. So many fashion rules broken. :D

I've a rule like that too: under 40 take no notice of shop assistants; over 40 take no notice of shop assistants!

    Never knew that, sounds silly.

Tell me that when I am trying to drag the sixteenth pair of jeans over my arse and finally find a pair that actually fits me. :D

I reckon you can't go wrong with the recommendations here. I particularly like the coral dress from Next and the floral one from Oasis. I'd definitely avoid control knickers and shorts. Go for the slip, they are much more comfortable and give a much more smooth effect. Try to get one that goes under your boobs, you don't want to squash your assets :D I got one in Marks and I got one in Penneys which I find really good. Gúna, shoes, accessories, get the hair done and you will look fab !

Agree with the other posters about the control slip rather then the control knickers. The slip is more comfortable. I have a couple from M&S and they are great. No giggly tummy :P
