Sky dish fell down, only want free channels.

Sky dish corroded and fell off the wall. The receiver on the dish broke away...what can I say we've not had a subscription in years :pac:

If I only wanted free channels would it be possible to obtain a new dish, put it up and get channels back or would it require another dish from sky? (in which case I'll just bite the bullet and get a saorview receiver).

You don't need a dish from Sky to get the free Sky channels. Any minidish pointed in the right direction will get those channels (also UK freeview channels - Which are escentially the channels you are getting with the Sky box with no sub)

Any reputable installer will be able to sort your dish. Should be very cheap as the cabling is already done. Those mini dishes are about €30 with a new LNB.

Edit: Linked below an example of the dish you need from adverts. There are loads on there:

Cheers really appreciate it. The dish I tried in the meantime appears to be the wrong type, someone had it stashed in their shed.

What do you mean by wrong type? Any dish with the correct LNB mounted on the dish arm will do, you don't have to use a Sky oval dish.

Various dish types here that would be suitable for satellite reception - http://www.satworld.ie/satellite-dishes-and-lnbs.html

Are you sure you alligned it correctly?

Hi this question is now resolved. Between the link Wisesmurf and the information The Cush offered I should be able to replace the dish.

This will probably be my last reply to this thread.

UK Freeview cannot be received with a dish. It is a terrestrial service received through an aerial just like Saorview.
You can however get UK free to air satellite channels.
