Good locations in Tenerife?

I've decided I'd like to go on a holiday to Tenerife. I'm not quite sure what part to go to though. I know a bus ride from one side of the island to the other only takes about an hour, so I don't care how close it is to the attractions and stuff, I just want a nice tourist area with a lot to do. I stayed in Playa de Las Americas a few years ago and it was great. I'm not against returning there at all, but I figure it could be a good idea to try another place. I'm interested in the tourist spots only. Are there any other parts as good/better than Playa de Las Americas?

I prefer playa de las Americas. I stayed in Los Cristianos and found it too quiet. I also stayed in Puerto de la cruz and loved it but again it's a lot quieter than las Americas.

I think I'll go to Las Americas again then, because last time I was there I was 12, and a fairly tame and shy 12 year old at that. Now that I'm a few years older,I'm much more outgoing and I have a very different attitude , what I would have been interested in then and what I'm interested in now is quite different. Has anyone got suggestions on what to do in Tenerife? Last time I went to Loro Parque, Aqua Land, Siam Park and the park with the monkeys you can go in with. Siam Park was great and that's something I'd definitely need to do again, same with the monkey park. Loro Parque was good, though I found it quite boring other than the orca and sea lion shows(I'm into keeping exotic animals, so it takes a lot to impress me). Aqua Land wasn't bad, but it couldn't compare to Siam Park, and I disliked their use of salt water.
So that's just an idea of what I liked and disliked, you may be able to use that to suggest other things. Cash isn't an issue at all.

Puerto de la Cruz in the north of the island is a nice base.

as for things to do in tenerife a tour to mount teide is a must. local buses leave from puerto or los christanios/playa del las americas or numerous tour companies do that trip (obviously cost more money)

    This passes a few hours.

if you base yourself in los christanios i would recommend one of the many tours that go whale and dolphin watching from the harbour. you should see loads of dophins and a few whales in a 2 hour trip.

would also highly recommend a day trip (or longer if possible) to nearby la gomera island. we took the day tour with these guys and it was excellent

Thank you. The mount Teide tour is something we meant to do last time, but as the weather was very overcast, the lifts weren't allowed to run, it's definitely something I'll consider this time. I went on one of the whale watching tours, and it wasn't my cup of tea. While it was cool when you actually saw the whales, I just remember it being very boring sitting around for most of the trip. The submarine thing seems cool, I'll definitely check that out.

The monkey park was called "Monkey Park", I believe. I was there in 2010, so, I couldn't tell you if it's still open, but I'd assume it is.

If you are young, do not go to Puerto de la Cruz. My friend and I did years ago and it was full of the blue rinse brigade. We promptly checked out of our accommodation and relocated to Playa de Las Americas for the rest of our holiday

    True

Known for being the favoured destination for the more mature crowd.

    Hi,

I would recommend the area between Playa de las Americas & Los Cristianos. It is newer, still in the middle of the tourist resort but doesn't feel crowded. There is more info in this previous post of mine here if that helps. The Parque Santiago 3 apartments are on the beach. There is so much around here and you have everything on your doorstep with bars & restaurants of all types & and to suit all budgets.. If you want the disco bars, then you just need to walk a few minutes towards Las Americas. If you want the quieter or more traditional place, you can just walk a few minutes towards Los Cristianos.

Maybe have a look on here.
