Pine Marten

Yesterday evening I went out for two hours with the .223 to see if there were any foxes moving and in one area that is boggy with lots of heather and trees a I decided to lay up and do some calling.
After only 3-4 calls a little head pops up from a dry drain no more than 10 yards away from me. He continued to suss me out and came to within 7 yards and then disappeared again but reappeared after a few seconds to get even closer. He came into 5 yards from me and I couldn't believe it. I had never seen one before never mind this close up. I tried to get my phone out of my pocket but I made to much movement and then he disappeared into the trees and didn't see him again.

I never knew pine martens would react to a rabbit distress call and I'm just wondering has this happened to anyone else?

It was probably around the size of a cat in height and length.

I had pinemartins appearing while calling foxs with a rabbit distress caller, they stand up on back legs, look for a while then run off. Them boys are highly protected. I called in mink, greybacks, crows, jacktaws, mags, foxs, and even buzzards came in to me 3 weeks ago while calling a rabbit distress caller. They were curious to see what was in distress but they didnt fly around for long, they flew away after a minute when they realized it was a false alarm. A fabulous looking bird they are which are also highly protected and rightly so.
Alot of different wildlife will investigate a rabbit distress call
