Howth. Bray. The Wicklow National Park. Enniskerry. Skerries. Lots of stately houses and gardens all over the place, lots of coast, mountains, and national monuments. What do you like?

With the motorway system you can now get pretty far from Dublin in an hour.
If you're capable of driving but just don't have a car maybe this would interest you http://www.gocar.ie/

Bray or Howth would fit your bill.

You could goto Malahide Demense which is really nice or Newgrange, Glendalough etc

As Budawanny mentioned - Ardgillan Castle is really, really nice. Lovely views from the top of the hill over the castle with the Mourne Mountains & the sea in the background. The tea rooms are very nice too.

You could then head back to Skerries for a walk along the beach & around Red Island for a drink & possibly a bite to eat along the Harbour. This is also the only vantage point along the east coast where you can watch the sun set over the sea. :)
