    Egyptian military look like they are in total control of the country, including Stalinesque type purge of Muslim Brotherhood

    Appears the people just overthrew the figurehead, they have now to deal with the layers of rot underneath

    Not exactly the biggest fan of the Muslim Brotherhood, but jesus, killing them all in mock trials with no defense is disturbing stuff

    Would rather Egypt was a peaceful and prosperous democracy but if it has to be run by the secular army or something called the Muslim Brotherhood....I know which one I'd go for

    Even if the country stabilises this will taint it forever and the crucial tourist industry will never recover. Most people won't consider going to a country that engages in what's tantamount to summary executions. You don't solve barbarism by being even more barbaric.

    Sure they kept the last military dictatorship there propped up for 3 decades, just "back to normal" as far as relations between the US and Egypt are concerned.

    Actually no, not a chance. The US more or less turned a blind eye, when a democratically elected government was brushed aside in a military coup last year. But it was in keeping with their own policy of 'democracy lite' or 'democracy when it suits' - demanding democracy here and turning a blind eye there, according to their own strategic needs. Or depending on the overall level of US corporate interest.
