Have a makita 18volt cordless drill for about a year now. It has the 3.0ah lithium ion batteries. Friday I put one on to charge and it just started beeping and flashing green and red light! Anyone have the same problem with these??

I've had similar problems with makita lithium ion. The batteries would only charge after inserting/removing them from charger several times. I went back to shop and their automatic reaction was that the charger needed to be replaced. I answered "ok, I'll try that, its 11 months old and still under warranty."
The drill, batteries and charger, then had to be sent back to supplier to be checked. Everything was returned with a note that the batteries were consistent with age and not a warranty issue/that I could buy new batteries to solve the problem. After 11 months of regular use! I expect more from professional tools.
I've got more work from Aldi/Lidl tools with 3 years manufacturer guarantee at a fraction of the price. Though if you want to pay more, I highly recomend Panasonic for cordless drills/screwdrivers.

One of my 18v Makita batteries died at about a year. The clutch also broke so brought whole lot back and got a replacement. Sorry I didn't pay the few quid extra for Hitachi now.
