I opened my window today and was unable to close it

i removed the door panel and the motor the motor operates to open the window
but will not operate to close the window

it will also operate through the central locking mechanism to open the window
    but will not close it.

the passenger size window is fine

any ideas on what could be wrong?

the car is a 00 skoda fabia comfort

So its not the switch given that it behaves the same way via the central locking.
Is the control module attached to the window motor unit?

Yes the control module is connected to the motor unit
I've checked the connections and they all seem to be connected

I removed the motor and pushed the window back up and both the switch and central locking mechanism both operate the motor in the downward position
    But not the up position

There is zero reaction from the motor when trying to close the window
