    I work night shift 8pm till 6am
    I get home at 7am
The water meter guys were installing with mini diggers and dumpers jack hammers the lot
    Icouldnt sleep
I drove to a car park to try and get asleep but just couldnt
At 2pm that day they were still working beside my house
Still I tried to sleep but couldnt
At 3pm I called a supervisor to ask for the night off because I couldnt trust myself working with no sleep .
I do alot of driving with passengers.
He called back and said it was ok .
Anyway today a co worker called and said that they were real busy and a manager aked why and they said were a man down because I couldnt sleep with the work been done at my doorstep .
He replied with get rid of him.
I dont no where I stand as im back in tomorrow at 8pm any help would be great .
Basically I felt with the lack of sleep and driving envolved it was unsafe for me to go in .

    Thanks in advance

    What is your question?

Nothing you can do about the digging outside your home. They have to do it during the day.

Maybe you should check in to a hotel or B&B for a few days to get some sleep and allow you to work?

I usually keep some earplugs in my room for situations like this, they wont stop every bit of noise but they do help an awful lot

At 3pm I called a supervisor to ask for the night off ...
He called back and said it was ok ......
a manager replied with get rid of him. ....
Assuming that this is a one off, then the manager sounds like a twat. You had permission not to come in, with a valid reason not to come in.

If you are there less than 12 months then they don't need a reason to let you go, if you are there longer, the manager would breaks all sorts of disciplinary codes by carrying out his threat.

If the manager wants to speak to you on your return, bring your supervisor with you to the meeting. I can't see anything other than this being a heat of the moment comment from the manager and it will all blow over.

Did a lot of night shifts myself and the advice above is vital, good ear plugs, blackout blind and eye mask.

I'm sorry, but I can't ring my workplace and tell them that I haven't slept!

Sure you can. I had to do so once back in 1998 after an attempted mugging and I didn't drive as part of my job.

What is it that you do?
