Claim UK motor tax

I bought a car in Northern Ireland recently, and it has UK tax until december 2013. I've read that it's possible to get a refund for the remaining tax in the UK but how would I do that from Ireland?

I think they send the refund to the registered owner, so would I have to change the owner in the UK to relatives in the UK or can I register it with the DVLA using an Irish address?

anyone had any experience doing this?

    cheers

    Form here

First thing on it says you need to be the registered keeper alright.

Just thinking that that's going to add another owner to the car :/ I was thinking about sending it to the previous registered owner but the chances of getting the letter are so slim haha

The only part of the Irish cert people will take notice of is the number of owners in ROI.

Is the amount of owners a continuation of the UK owners or does it start fresh once the car is imported?

    thanks

Starts fresh, will say 0 previous owners.
It'll say the uk owners on another section of the cert.

How can you get a refund when 2013 has gone by, unless you mean 2014?

Its probably not going to be anywhere near as a significant amount as you might be expecting anyway.

They dont get ripped off with motortax up north like we do

Irish VRC doesn't state number of owners in previous registration country afaik.
All it says it previous registration number.

I think you need a UK address to claim back tax.
