Hello again guys, thanks for the advice on spinners last week.

I have just purchased a Kuhn mds 921 and I was looking for a starting point for 1bag per acre, 2 bags per acre etc.

I think I might have a handbook for one, I'll have a look. Anyway, a lot depends on the forward speed you are comfortable driving at, while engine is at PTO speed. Keep to the one tractor for spreading, and you'll be ok. Now, from memory (!) set it at 14 for 1cwt of 27-2.5-5 to the acre. Driving roughly 7 metres between the wheel tracks, at 9 mph.

(PS) that setting is for a Kuhn ZSB 900, which I think has the very same spinner and disk set-up.

Also, you are as well buying 50kg bags till you get into the swing of it. And try her out in a small field to begin with, say 3 acres etc.

    Thanks nek, that's a start

    go to Kuhn.co.uk
    click online services
    calibration charts
fertiliser and click whatever you want

has all types of fertiliser and all disc settings on it for whatever rate per hectare that you require

Actually found the book/ calibration chart. I got it from Cork Machines Ltd, Carrigrohane Road, Cork. 021 4543801

I just rang them and they sent me one, no charge.
It has settings for C A N, Net Nitrate, albatross and Goulding fertilizers, Draza Slug killer etc, and comes marked "IRL"

Gives rates for 9,10 and 12 metre spreading widths, four different forward speeds, and four different plant heights.

The tilt (front to back) of a twin spinner appears to also need consideration. ie top link shortened so slight tilt towards tractor.

I think the Kuhn are supposed to be level, for grassland use anyway. Here is a page from the chart.
Note: this is the page that shows 15,16 and 18 metre bout widths.

Sorry you are dead right for this spreader. Mine recommends 3º tilt towards tractor for gran fertiliser and level for grass seed.

all them charts are available on this website https://streutabellen.rauch-community.de/streutabelle/index.php

if you want lbs per acre then use this one https://streutabellen.rauch-community.de/streutabelle/index.php?lang=44&mass=imp

click accept> select spreader> choose fertilizer> type of fetrilizer (N/PK/NPK/Urea etc) > normal dressing > then scroll down the fertilizer list to find the ones begining "(IRL)" eg "(IRL) C.A.N.; 27%N, 1,03 kg / l; Goulding" > choose working width and foward speed and it will display the chart that is in the pic above.

i think that on the new mds spreaders if you have a setting for x amount of kgs per ha and you want 10% less then you just change the setting on the machine less 10% eg IF the setting for 110 kg per ha is 100, then the setting for 100kg per ha would be 90. it seems that way from the charts also.

there is also other info on the site on the top of the page general info, legend for spreader charts etc.
