I was re reading ACOK recently and I noticed that when Arya (arry!) is with Yoren and the men for the Nights Watch, Gendry is not identified as Gendry for a few chapters - he's referred to as The Bull instead.

And it was making me wonder about all the characters in the books that have taken or being given (by a character or GRRM) a different identity or in the case of Gendry, simply revealed later on a reintroduction

Here's who I can think of now:
Arya - arry, cat of the canals,
    Sansa - alayne
millers sons - Bran and Rickon
    Cat - Lady Stoneheart
    Barristan Selmy - Arstan Whitebeard
Asha greyjoy - I don't think her alias had a name?
    Jon connington - griff
    Aegon - young griff

There are theories that Varys has appeared a few times in the books as other characters.

I have to say I love it about the stories - for me it certainly adds a dimension of mystery and it makes re reads lots of fun.

Are there more I'm forgetting right now?

    Revelations?

Yeah - I didn't want to call it identity revelations in case the title spoiled the concept for non book readers.

So eg in the case of Whitebeard he meets Dany, he's known as that for ages, and it's only towards the end of the book that his true identity is revealed, both to the characters and the unsuspecting reader.

Theon/Reek is not on your list.

Maester Aemon perhaps. Revealed as a Targaryan and was offered the crown after his brother Daeron's death.

    Jeyne Poole - Fake Arya.

Varys has been revealed to have various disguises, I think the dungeon turnkey, Rugen, is the only named one.

Oh and you've reminded me of another one - the original Reek / Ramsay switcheroo!
