    Friend bought one of these.

We cannot get the red screw for camcorders off and cannot lock the plate when its in place. Any ideas?

Just had a look at it here http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/755484-REG/Manfrotto_MK394_H_Photo_Movie_Kit_Aluminum_Tripod.html (you can zoom in on the photos there)
Looks pretty standard to me - there's a lever at the back of the head to release and lock the plate. You may need to push this in using a small amount of pressure to lock it in place tightly. Note that there should be an arrow on the underside of the plate indicating which way your lens should be pointing (front). It won't lock in if this is the wrong way around.
The red 'screw' looks to me to be just a cover and should just pull off revealing a silver 'pin' underneath. Don't quote me on that though as I can't be 100% sure.

Thanks saw that link but missed the zoom capability. Got it locked and red pin out. Thanks again

when the plate is on the camera and the camera not on the tripod the camera will rest forward on the lens if left on a flat surface. Do people take the plate off camera each time?
