I'm unsure whether this is the right place for this query but here goes. On some sites e.g. irishrugby.ie an annoying "banner" - lets call it a pop in - loads from the left hand side. It's multicoloured and has links to Facebook, Twitter, g+, Pinrest and More. It prevents the proper reading of the page and to my mind is unwanted. On other sites it appears on the right hand side. Is it possible to get rid of this? BTW I use Firefox

Install the AdBlock Plus add-on to Firefox and subscribe to 'Fanboy's Annoyance List'. Does a pretty good job of removing all that annoying social media crap.
