Hi all. I am living in dublin and have a 2008 mini cooper d with 200km in the clock. My dpf warning light has come on. I never had issues with this before.
I heard you can have it removed and remapped but I do not want to go down this road. I would like it checked and it not possible to fix have it replaced. Can anyone suggest the best place for this?? I do not want to go to main dealer and be robbed!!! Thanks

How long have you owned it, what kind of driving do you do?
    Stop start short trips,
    City centre commute,
    Any motorway use?
Has your driving pattern changed recently?

The fact this posted originally in the dublin city forum could indicate the cause.

    Hi.
Owned since new in jan 2008. First 5 years was motor way driving mainly 30 mins morning 30 mins evening. Since november I have not really been driving the car only twice a week for 10 mins and every second weekend back to waterford.
Got the clutch and flywheel done a month ago and the dpf light is on since.

Sounds like your driving patterns may have resulted in filter getting sooted up.

Diesels do not like short trips, low gears and start/stop city driving.

When replacing the clutch/flywheel on the Dv6 engine the dpf needs to be removed as one of the gearbox bolts are behind the dpf.
If the light has been on since you get the clutch/flywheel fitted then they mechanic may have left a dpf related sensor off somewhere....

Get a diagnostic check done first to see if there are any faults logged and get them to check the differential pressure across the dpf.

As they lads said above short journeys don't suit diesels fitted with dpf.

If you really are only doing infrequent trips during the week, shopping I guess. That probably won't be enough to cause it to clog up since the trip to Waterford should be clearing out any accumulation.

If you were using it daily on those short trips then it would definitely be the problem as the time between motorway trips might be too lengthy.

Have you noticed the DPF go off at all during the Waterford trips.
Are they proper motorway speed drives? I am not familiar with the route.

Some kinds of car can be put into DPF regen mode by a mechanic using a electronic tool. That may be needed. There are quite a few specialists in this area so no need to go to a main dealer I should think.

Maybe someone else will recommend a garage.

Thank you all for your advise. Come to think of it the light came on on the way to get the clutch and flywheel replaced. Mechanic reset the light but it came back on on the way back to dublin on the motor way :(
In relation to the motor way its dublin to kilkenny and yes I keep the foot to the floor ;) proper motor way driving

Can I ask why you would prefer to not get it removed?

It can often lead to smoother running and better fuel economy.

I have thought about it. I was talking to sohans looks like there isnt much in the difference of price between having it removed and remapped to having it replaced!! Think about 40 euro was the difference. The uk have already made it compulsory for their equivalent to nct. This is the reason why I wanted to have it replaced

Rumour has it that the NCT are going to start testing DPFs in the next couple of years. They starting doing the same in the MOT now in the UK and it's usually a case of monkey see, monkey do over here.
