Would just like to hear your thoughts on this.I started in a job on the 6th March and the contract was for a probational period of 3 months. So you could be out of my ear then, which is fair enough.I was informed last week that due to not enough work, that I am been let go.Some others have been the same, and I've been told from my "spy" in the company that they are back next week. Can they do this lawfully?.I am guessing that they would have known roughly what orders are there at the start of my contract, so is this just a subtle way of getting rid?

On a slightly related topic, in the same job I have to pay union fees even though I never met any rep, or no one to contact if I have a grievance. Is this the norm for union membership these days?

Maybe this is perfectly normal, I don't know:confused::confused:.

If you are paying Union fees you must be a member of A Union. Seek out your Union Rep. Someone must know who the Union Rep is.

Look the union up on the Web and contact them directly

If you're on probation they don't need to be subtle about getting rid, that's kinda the point of it. It seems a bit OTT to lay off others then 'secretly' bring them back, just to get rid of one person. Not sure what, but I'd say there's more to it.

Yeah I have called the number for the right section on the website, but its engaged so I sent an email and got back an automated reply saying the person is not in siptu anymore. It did give alternative email addresses which I have resent to so I will wait and see.

Yeah, if I could know what they are up to instead of them just messing about. I think there is some dodgy stuff going on here.
The other thing is that 98/99% of the workers are non nationals and I think they are taking advantage of this because the perception is that they are less likely to kick up a stink.
