Problem with car mechanic

    Hi All,

Quick question for everyone, might be able to help me.

I recently paid 1200 for a car engine to be fixed, head unit and lifters in the engine.
had car back a few weeks and the bolt in the cam shaft went, stopped the engine working. I have had 3 different mechanics look at it and have said the bolt in the cam should have been changed and that it was tightened too much. Also diesel pump went after this, not sure if they are connected or not.

Problem is, what to say to the mechanic who did the initial work, he is basically saying that the parts he fixed didn't break, but it is a part which he SHOULD have replaced which did break and is not causing another 500 euro worth of trouble.

    Thanks,

Not the most helpful response, but I have found a new mechanic. I just don't want to be done out of 1200 for a repair which went to crap.

I did. The main dealer said any part like this should be replaced as they are under constant pull or torque

What difference is if he is self employed or a multi million company?

    Is your mechanic a solicitor?

No, I don't think he is. What I was told was the mechanic who fixed my car was self employed and that the guy who ownes the garage doesn't stand over the work as it was nothing to do with him.
Also was told that he told me from day one the car wasn't worth fixing, even though I asked should I sell car as damaged repairable, get a new engine, or get it fixed, they both said get it fixed.

The mechanic would be responsible for any faulty work. You paid him, and potentially you can recover money from him too.

I was told after the fact that they don't give a warrenty on the repair as the car is high milage,161k miles.
