Alternative to porcelain tiles

    Hi,
We are in the middle of a new build and have to decide very soon on flooring for the kitchen. Everywhere we go we see large polished porcelain tiles which look great but as someone with very small children I'm concerned that they may be slippy and VERY hard to keep clean. Its a kitchen/dining room so is quiet a large area. We don't really want to have wooden floors in the kitchen so I'm just wondering what others have used as an alternative to the polished porcelain tiles that looks well but might be more practical.
    Thanks

I have travertine, hides the dirt so you don't need to sweep it every day. 2 years on there is one bit of filler that's popped out that I need to fill in. It popped out because travertine is naturally like an Aero bar with grooves, and they put a grout thingy in it to level it off. I think it looks well, a lot of my family have polished porcelain, some love it, some don't. I saw matt porcelain tiles also recently (just in a shop, haven't seen them down anywhere).

Have a look at some stores that sell LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tiles). Products such as Amtico/Spacia/Karndean etc. I have amtico in my own kitchen and have a 1 year old and a 3 year old, I find it great.

We put 60x 60 polished porcelain in our kitchen and we feared they would be slippery and dangerous, but no issues so far with 3 kids under 4.

Every week or so they get a good scrub and dried off, and look like new again. Really look the part when clean and get many compliments about them from visitors.
