Apartment Complex wired with Sky dishes

I live in an apartment complex that has been installed with two Sky dishes on the roof. These were installed by Sky about a year ago.

Cables have been run so that it is pretty easy for each apartment to get connected to these dishes. One of these cables is right outside my front door

So rather then pay for the usual Sky box offerings... :D and the added bonus of dumping UPC.

Is it possile for me to just connect to those dishes and use a Ariva unit to get the freesat/freeview channels?

    Any help is appreciated.

I don't think there is any law guaranteeing you free access to such a system so, unless your management company made it a condition of letting Sky in, I don't think Sky will want to be hooking anyone up, without getting at least a contract term out of them.

I can understand that, as they only installed the dish to earn revenue. Though they needed permission to install them beforehand

As for the Mgmt Company, we only hear from them when the fees are due, and in my experience they do not look out for the residents best interests. I'll contact them and see if I can use the cable without taking up a contract with Sky.

So is it correct to say that connecting it up a Sat combo box I can get the Freesat channels?

i was in a similar scenario. the management company is charging me €5/month for using their dish and they ran the wire to my tv.

you will get the freesat channels from the satellite if you can connect. Whether the management company will be impressed is another story.

Maybe it's a fibre cable, not co-ax? In which case your receiver on its own would be no use. Unlikely Sky would supply single co-ax cables to each dwelling, as I don't think their receivers do SCR/unicable.

    Now that's interesting!
Did you or anyone else in the complex try to install a dish?

My reason for asking is that most management companies stop you from putting a sat dish on your balcony or outside wall. Though in your case they charge you.
