UPC Technicolor Router Connection Problem

Hi Folks, last week UPC sent me a router upgrade, from Netgear to Technicolor, I installed it no problem and was able to connect all laptops and devices except for my daughter’s laptop.
It’s a Compaq Presario running Vista Home Basic with Avast antivirus and she uses Chrome and Explorer.
The problem is that it is “Unable to connect to the Internet” using a wireless connection even though when I click on Connect to a Network it shows that I am connected to the UPC network . I does work with an Ethernet cable and it also connects to my O2 wireless dongle.
When I click on Network and Sharing Centre it shows: This Computer----Unidentified Network----X----Internet
Any ideas on how to fix this (I did contact UPC but no joy)

Check if it has an atheros wifi adapter. Specifically an AR500X one.

Start menu, type device manager, click on device manager, go down to network adapters and click the arrow to expand.

Hi ED, Yes it has an Atheros WiFi Adapter but it's an AR5007 802.11b/g WiFi Adapter.

    Thought so.

The driver is bad, has a bug with WPA encryption. Go grab the fixed driver file when its connected via cable, install, reboot. Then it'll work on wifi.

Hp/compaq support site should have it, if not atheros.cz

Thanks ED for all your help, I’m up and running.
I updated the driver like you said by going to:
Start/Control Panel/NetworkandSharingCenter/ManageWirelessNetworks/(highlight your network)/AdapterProperties/WirelessNetworkConnectionProperties/Configure/Driver/UpdateDriver and let it off to search the internet and install the updated driver.
I’m sure there’s an easier way but I then rebooted and connected first time. Thanks again.

Thanks ED. I've just spent hours trying to figure this out. Have been all over the web & MS support sites. Disabling DHCP broadcasts, editing the registry. Assigning static ip addresses all to no avail. This fixed it in minutes. Cheers!
