PayPal is by all intents and purposes free. For example its's free to open a PayPal account. Free to withdraw from your PayPal balance to your bank account and free to add money to your PayPal balance from your bank account. But some fees will apply.

Business ebay sellers must pay insertion fees.

    About 10%.

It's not free to receive money by PayPal.

On eBay there are different rates per category. It depends on what you are listing.
PayPal is normally a 3.5% deduction from your sale afaik.

Thanks. So essentially if I sell something on e bay for 250, the fees are roughly about 30 Euro ? Meaning I only actually pocket 220.

To sell for €250, it will cost about €37 including ebay and paypal fees. Bear in mind that if it is something that needs to be post, you also pay fees on that cost.

Yeah, you mght be better off trying to sell that item on Adverts for a success fee of €3

That depends on the item/market. There are people who make a good income buying on Adverts and selling on eBay. Good Income = enough money to get letters from Revenue re their ebay income :-)

When is the money (including lost growth) Michael Noonan took in the Pension Levy going to be paid back?

Thanks very much. Jaysus when ya actually stand back and look at it, the fees are rather substantial IMHO

Ebay is very expensive on items up to about 1000 euros - then the max limit they change kicks in - but you do get an audience of a very large number of people willing to buy your stuff compared to adverts - so better chance to sell for what you want.

Also - check the limits of how much you can receive via paypal - if you are new to paypal the amount you can receive is quite low - unless you start the auction at a low price then they let it slide.

Its a pity the AnPost postage is so expensive to post stuff out of Ireland - look into parcelmotel for cheap to-uk postage if its bought there.
