Anyone with advice? I am a project manager looking to build my qualification, I have an MSc, and a number of international project manager qualifications but I am thinking of doing something more in business strategy or management. I don't want to do an MBA but I think I need to do more economics or something with finance and a friend has recommended CIMA. My original background is social science, not business so this is what I want to work on. Does anyone who has completed it have an opinion on if it's worth doing for someone who doesn't want to be an accountant? What I'm looking for is some kind of credibility for longer term career in business strategy. Would love some advice please. Thanks.

CIMA is a fantastic qualification for business, no doubt about it.

The difficulty I see for you is that you cannot qualify as an ACMA without 3 years of relevant experience.

I know CIMA gave exemptions from all exams up to TOPCIMA for some MBAs, however your previous work experience counts for 50% of TOPCIMA with a pass mark of 50%. So if you have all the education in the world you will still need 3 years experience.

edit: it was actually an MSc in Strategic Management that I saw. Sorry.

I have found the staff in the CIMA office extremely helpful over the years and I would suggest giving them call.

While checking the phone number I spotted this:
    "Talk to a personal advisor-
Before you register as a student, you can find out more about why the CIMA qualification is different from other business qualifications and how it can help your career by speaking to one of our personal advisors at:

I'm doing an MBA at the moment and have a engineering qualifications that allow me some exceptions from basic CIMA qualifications.

As an MBA graduate at what grade can I join CIMA?

    Hey,

I'm a non accountant halfway through CIMA right now, coming from a sales background. Decided to do it to boost the career as all the top people in the companies I've worked for have some sort of finance qualification. I reckon it's certainly worth doing and coming from a PM background you'll actually enjoy lots of the syllabus. 1/3 is the nuts and bolts of accounting, 1/3 is performance management, and 1/3 is strategy stuff.
